Health Food Vitamin
Many
common foods contain vitamins that promote good health. In this respect,
fruit, dark-green leafy greens, low-fat dairy products, and even eggs and
lean meats can be considered "health foods." Vitamins help our bodies do
their basic digestive and reparative work and can increase our life spans
with their beneficial properties. As well, you can help fight off diseases
like diabetes (Type II), lung cancer, and heart disease with the proper
vitamin-packed diet.
Vitamins
are natural substances that you can get through the sun, the consumption
of healthy foods, or through supplements. It is important to make sure you
are getting an ample supply of vitamin A, the B vitamins, vitamin C, and
others. A varied diet centered around healthy foods can supply not only
needed vitamins, but additional elements (like fiber) that can benefit
your overall health.
Fruits and
vegetables provide many of the vitamins needed to help your body function
properly, fight off infection, and prolong good health over time. Oranges
are high in vitamin C, which helps your white blood cells to heal you in
case of injury. Oranges are also high in B vitamins like B12, which help
you produce protein and long-sustaining energy. Fortified milk provides
vitamin D, which is especially beneficial in the winter when the sun is
scarce (another good source of vitamin D). Carrots feature vitamin A,
which works to help your vision.
Your body
doesn't produce vitamins for you on its own, so you must add them in
supplement form if you're missing them in your diet. This is especially
true when it comes to water-soluble vitamins, such as the B vitamins or
vitamin C. The body cannot store water-soluble vitamins, so they must be
consumed on a daily basis. Your doctor can advise you regarding which
supplements might benefit your daily routine.
