PROTEIN
Samon extra protein, the commended RDA (1989) for
protein is 12 to 15 % of energy intake. Some studies have suggested that the
current RDAfor protein (0.8gms/kg) even with its built in safety factor is
insufficient for both strength and endurance, motocrosser actual requirement
may be (1-1.6gms/kg). Endurance athlete may need additional protein for
repair of damaged muscle fibers. For strength motocrosser, there is
increased uptake of amino acids due to hypertrophic stimulus caused by
resistance exercise and this may in turn increases protein requirement.
For motocross protein intake of (1.6-1.7gms/kg) may be
beneficial in building body muscles extensively. Depending upon whether the
glycogen stores are optimal or depleted before the beginning of the
exercise, the proportion of the requirement supplied by protein has been
estimated 5-20%.
In case of female motocross, the recommitted protein
intake is (1-1.5gms/kg). This is also true for marathons and triathlons with
exceptionally high-energy requirements.
Excessive protein intake can lead to dehydration,
calcium loss, and gout and possible stress to the kidney
